Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Offers Free College Tuition To All 118,000 Dealership Employees

The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in the United States announced that they will be offering free college tuition to all of their dealership employees. This announcement will ultimately impact the opportunities for as many as 118,000 current employees at more than 2,400 dealerships across the country. This agreement applies to all part-time and full-time employees at all Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Fiat dealerships. The overall purpose of this change is to attract and retain a better quality of employee over the years, and to breed a sense of loyalty among the employees.

There are some catches to the newly offered benefit, but chances are that if you have been with the company for at least 30 days, you will start to become eligible for free tuition soon. The free tuition is not available to be used at any college of your choosing however, as it will only be offered at one university. Strayer University out of Virginia will be the only university that is a part of Fiat Chrysler Automotive’s new initiative, but they offer fully-accredited online degrees, as well as on-campus degrees from many satellite campuses across the country.

By targeting a type of employee that is looking for a free education, FCA plans to attract a better quality employee. They also feel that these employees will at least remain with them for the duration of their education, meaning that they will stay for at least 2 years if they plan to only get an associate’s degree. This will hopefully aid some of the company’s turnover rates, which hover around the 50% mark annually. They are currently losing employees at an astonishing rate, but that is nothing unusual in the world of automotive dealerships.

For the employees who use this tuition benefit, there will be no out-of-pocket cost for the tuition, books, etc. All of the student’s/employee’s expenses will be taken care of by FCA and the dealership. At this point the dealership will be responsible for paying a fee for each employee that enrolls in the program, but more and more dealerships will be brought on board with the tuition program as the year goes on.
