Why Do Guys Laugh At Bathroom Humor? – ‘The Why’

Welcome to the newest edition of The Why. “Why do guys laugh at bathroom humor?” you ask? (Well, OK, we got a long list of questions regarding why guys laugh at stuff. In this edition of the series, we will cover yet another one of them.)

So why do guys laugh at bathroom humor? Since it’s been awhile, let’s first ask our friends at Yahoo.

Yahoo Poster “Morbidly Obese Albert” says guys laugh at bathroom humor “because we have a sense of humor.”

Yahoo Poster “Discreet Package” points out that traditionally speaking, bathroom humor was “kept away from women” and that they were therefore not expected to think it was funny. If we assume gals don’t have a sense of humor that means guys laugh at bathroom humor because it’s “a guy thing.”

Again though, if that doesn’t satisfy your curiosity then let’s revisit with our buddy Aaron Traister. He’s an online columnist for Redbook.

Traister has dealt with the whole issue of gender differences and sense of humor. (After all, he’s a guy writing for a women’s magazine, mmmkay?)

Traister says: “We’ve tried for centuries to explain why this category is so funny (because going to the bathroom is gross and shocking, and everyone does it and nobody talks about it), but it doesn’t work–you ladies aren’t coming along for the ride. “

(Dude, we know that. Surely you must have something for us, no?)

Traister concludes: “There is a great scene in Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona where Launce’s dog pees on a woman’s skirt and he claims responsibility so the dog won’t be punished. It’s very funny. (My parents were English teachers.) My point is if Shakespeare couldn’t convince you to laugh at potty humor, what chance do I have?”

Perhaps in this case, we must simply shrug our collective shoulders and fall back on a conclusion drawn from that classic Tootsie Pop commercial. To wit: Why do guys laugh at bathroom humor? “The world may never know.”

Why do guys laugh at bathroom humor? Now you know.

You ask the questions.  We provide the answers.
