Fox is releasing their rebooted version of Fantastic Four this weekend and with a fresh young cast, up and coming director and the general popularity of superhero films these days, the studio was hoping for a big hit. Unfortunately, at least with critics so far, that has not been the case.

Director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four is currently certified rotten with a meager 17 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  Sadly, there were clues that the film may be less than stellar such as a troubled production and reviews not surfacing until the day before the films release. Here is what critics are saying so far.

“Often out of alignment, and missing a clear creative guiding vision, “Fantastic Four” is not ready for the multiplex battle ahead” – The Playlist

“Frankly, it’s amazing this is watchable at all” – Time Out

“Fantastic Four feels like a 100-minute trailer for a movie that never happens” – Hollywood Reporter

“Director Josh Trank has assembled a quartet of engaging, charismatic performers and stranded them in a miasma of exposition and set-up. So much time is spent putting the pieces on the board that there’s barely any time to play with them.” – The Wrap

“Maybe the Fantastic Four just aren’t meant for a live-action movie.” – Coming Soon
It is unclear how much, if at all, the bad buzz will effect the movies opening weekend. As of now, Fantastic Four is looking to make about $45 million this weekend. But, if the reviews wind up hurting the turnout, Fox’s plans for Fantastic Four 2, which is currently slated for a June 9, 2017 release, could be scrapped altogether.
Fantastic Four hits theaters this weekend and stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell.
