According to a source at Variety, American mixed martial artist, judoka and actress Ronda Rousey will star in an upcoming film adaptation of her best-selling 2015 autobiography My Fight/Your Fight. Since breaking out in the action film Expendables 3, her fans find this development to be more an expectation rather than an actual surprise. Rousey, however, has not had many chances to provide in-depth details on the upcoming motion picture.
Rousey is the current and first UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, and the last Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She took down Bethe Correia from Brazil in 34 seconds during their August 1 Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match as part of a professional MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Immediately following the match, she paid loving tribute to the late world-famous WWE wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper who died last Friday. Rousey, who is also nicknamed, “Rowdy”, said: “We lost a close friend.”
28 year-old Rousey has reportedly redefined the sport. She has racked up 11 first round victories and one third round win. She has a solid fan base but still at times draws criticism from others. One anonymous social media poster complained: Ronda Rousey is disgustingly manly”.
Her supporters, however, remain steadfast. In July of 2014 she trounced Alexis Davis in 16 seconds. Last February she cut down Cat Zingano in 14 seconds. Since that takedown Rousey has become what some call “an unstoppable force with a winning record of 12 and 0.
Of course, more recently Rousey lost her UFC championship belt. Prior to UFC 190, she had promised to leave the belt in Brazil id she won against Correia.
Yesterday she surrendered the gold and leather belt to Instituto Reação, a judo school in Rio de Janeiro. Rousey concluded that the “kids are so inspiring (and) the facility is (so) amazing (she) couldn’t think of a better place for it.”
