According to a recent Reuters report, the Chicago Blackhawks’ rising ice hockey star Patrick Kane is the current subject of a criminal rape investigation. Law enforcement agents in upstate New York are presently investigating rape allegations made against the National Hockey League (NHL) athlete. A source with the Buffalo News confirmed this yesterday with two individual police sources.
26 year-old Kane currently owns an off-season residence in Hamburg, a suburb of Buffalo, New York. According to anonymous sources, it was there that an as yet unnamed woman made accusations against “the four-time NHL All- Star and sports idol of sexual assault. The sources also stated that following last weekend’s alleged incident, the woman had gone to a nearby hospital and a rape kit was reportedly used to perform the appropriate tests.
The National Hockey League’s group vice president of communications, Frank Brown, told the press: “We are aware of the police investigation and are following developments.”
At press time, Kane had yet to be officially charged with any crime. He is still scheduled to take the NHL Stanley Cup to Buffalo, New York this coming weekend as part of a celebration of the Chicago Blackhawks’ third championship in the past six years.
The NHL team released a formal statement that declared: “We (the Chicago Blackhawks) are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett told the press he could not confirm there was a criminal investigation in progress. Numerous sources do, however, confirm Kane having previous altercations with the law.
In 2009 the ice hockey winger was involved in an incident with a taxi cab driver in Buffalo and accused of assault. Kane (and his cousin both) pled guilty to disorderly conduct. Neither Kane nor his agent Pat Brisson could be reached for comment as this goes to press.
