Every day you pick up a paper or open a celebrity website, there is news of a struggling couple going through marriage problems. Of course, there are plenty of examples where none of us would be too surprised – Kanye and Kim’s recent problems are hardly a shock to the system. So, today, we thought we would take a look at some of the reasons why so many famous people struggle to tie the knot. Let’s take a closer look.
The Seven-Year Itch
We all know about the seven-year itch, and when it comes to celebrities, there is plenty of evidence that suggests there is something to it. According to research, the average marriage between famous people lasts for 7.4 years. Coincidence? Maybe – but maybe not. Given the options on the table for famous folk, there are plenty of opportunities to think the grass may be greener elsewhere. And, if the seven-year itch is an actual thing, then perhaps they are the living embodiments of that particular old wive’s tale.
You are famous because you think you deserve to be – and when there are two famous people in one relationship, it’s going to cause all kinds of trouble. Competing egos cause issues when one partner becomes more successful than the other. The other doesn’t like it, they clash, and it’s the beginning of the end for the marriage. Ego is a fundamental part of being a celebrity, and it’s all too easy to end up rubbing each other the wrong way. Sparks are always going to fly, and can always lead to big fires that are hard to put out.
Young people tend to make bad decisions. Due, mainly, because of their ignorance, risk taking, and youthful enthusiasm. So, when it seems like a twentysomething has met their perfect partner, they will often jump right in at the deep end. If you are a celebrity, it is far more likely to you will have a successful marriage if you wait until you hit your thirties. Anything before then is almost guaranteed to end up with communicating only through your divorce attorney.
Compulsive celebrities will often get married fast, without putting in the groundwork beforehand. The statistics suggest that those who marry after spending, at least, a year before tying the knot will have longer marriages. It makes sense in the real world, of course. But, the lifestyle some folk lead can result in snap decisions made under a number of different circumstances most of us cannot imagine.
Finally, it’s easy to suggest that celebrities will often put their careers ahead of anything else. And, that includes their relationships, too, of course. After all, without their careers, what else would they have? The only trouble is that there is a lot of travel involved when you are famous – and a lot of temptation that comes with it. Famous people have plenty of opportunities to meet new people. Should they decide they have made the wrong choice, there will always be someone there to pick up the pieces.
