What was Victor Espinoza thinking when he attempted to kidnap a 10-year-old boy in front of his cousins on his way to soccer practice Friday evening? Police in Santa Ana, Ca. arrested Victor Joseph Espinoza , a 55-year-old, 425-pound gang member.

The boys soccer coach came to the rescue after the 425-pound man with more than 60 prior arrests allegedly tried to kidnap one of his young players. “The little boy came crying at me, saying that man wanted to take him. He said that he grabbed him and he started smelling him,” the coach, who wished to remain anonymous, told ABC Los Angeles.

“I’m a parent, I worry about my kids, and I thought that I had to do something.” ABC Los Angeles said Espinoza who tried to leave the scene was discovered by a police helicopter hiding nearby in the back yard of a residence. Infrared video captured Espinoza hiding under a tree moments before his arrest.

Espinoza was being held on $100,000 bail on charges including false imprisonment and child annoyance.
