A 65 year old New Jersey women named Evelyn had a 51-pound cancerous tumor removed after having to wait to qualify for health insurance. The Tumor could have been removed earlier however she had to wait for approval of medicare insurance to have the rapidly growing cancerous tumor removed.

Her doctor said “She was a skinny lady with a huge belly. I mean it looked like she was literally pregnant with triplets,” said Dr. David Dupree.

About six to eight weeks before she showed up at the hospital, Evelyn noticed discomfort in her abdomen and that her normally 120-pound frame was rapidly ballooning.

Evelyn gave a reason for why she waited, “I wasn’t in pain, but I was really uncomfortable,” she said. “But I couldn’t go to the doctor right away because I was going to be 65 in June and had to wait for the Medicare to kick in.”

Dr. Dupree later described the surgery to Nydailynews saying “We discovered it was fused to the abdominal wall,” he said. “That meant we were literally shaving this thing off, moving milimeter by milimeter for hours.”

Evelyn is now back down to her normal weight of 120 pounds, and is expected to make a recovery after this surgery.
