Opening in 007 Style!
Queen Elizabeth parachuted into the stadium in London like James Bond and is officially the first Head of State to open the olympics twice historically, since she last opened in 1976. Dignitaries from different countries including the US first lady, Michelle Obama had arrived in London for the opening. Billions of people around the globe awaited the opening of the 2012 Olympics even with the time differences; the ceremony lit up the faces of those present in the stadium as well as those closely watching from their TV screens, including myself.
This International event had the whole world hanging by a thread, closely watching out for which countries have been selected in various sports as well as which athletes will be competing at the London 2012. Years followed by months of preparations finally arrived and the opening torch was lit in London.
The Ceremony !
The signing choir opened the ceremony with the beautifully sung and signed national anthem as the whole world was getting ready to compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals with pressure and great enthousiasm. Just to name a few of the special scenarios which were represented musically that of the National Health Services by Gosh childrens hospital is worth mentioning as the purpose for Health care is as obvious as white on rice. After which a passage from Neverland was read and scenes from Harry Potter ,101 Dalmatians and Mary Poppins, great classics, were also played.
“Chariots of Fire” was also interpreted by Sir Simon Rattles’ orchestra to which some humour was added by Mr Rowen Atkinson. Many of you have followed the ceremony which was beautifully successful, with a musical walk through the history of music in England, without forgetting to mention the Beattles as an example; a great reminder of England’s cultural heritage. The choice of the nighttime was perfect as it took out the lighting for the different shows as well as the Tron dance just to name one.
What more…
I wish I had a replay button in my head to enable me to keep account and write every single detail of the ceremony. Unfortunatly I have neither the ability nor the photographic memory to give you a detailed description of exactly how the London 2012 took place at Hide Park on the 27th of July 2012. Sir Tim Berners’ Lee inventor of the World Wide Web who was a guest at the ceremony, has thankfully invented it at the right time as replays as well as more details shall be be readily available as of today.
The 70 day tour of the torch around the whole of England by young and old to finally open the long awaited ceremony; I believe is more than enough to keep us enthousiastically awaiting for the rest of the Olympics. England is however faced with Traffic issues due to the Games and public Transport is highly recomended. The Black Taxi’s are not the only ones who seem to be uneased with the Olympics this year as some spectators lined up to watch an archory contest were sent back. We cannot excpect everything to go smoothly without any set backs, specially when there are millions of people involved so let’s keep an eye out on the rest of the Olympics and hope for the best to come out.
