Four year old Carson Dean Cheney has died after a large tombstone fell over onto him while he was visiting a historic cemetery in Utah. The boy and his family had arrived at the cemetery to take pictures when the large headstone fell onto the boy killing him.

The headstone was six feet tall, and four inches thick weighing a couple hundred pounds. The headstone had detached from its ledge when the metal connecting the large rock disconnected from the pedastal, crashing down on to the boy.

The boy’s grandmother said the family was taking pictures of relatives when the accident occurred. It took a crew of three men to remove the rock from the boys body. He died of injures to his head, abdomen, and chest.

Carson was trying to put on a show for his father, pretending to be a leprachan trying to make his father laugh when the incident took place.

“There’s still so much disbelief and sorrow and anguish,” the boy’s grandmother Geri Gibbs told Deseretnews “We just keep waiting for the door to open up and Carson to come through.”

Families are responsible for maintenance on the headstones at the cemetery. The boy’s funeral is set for Tuesday.
