New details are emerging about the tragic shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

Adam Lanza Kills Mother Nancy Lanza then begins murder spree:

Nancy Lanza, mother of gunman Adam Lanza, was found dead in her Connecticut home. Adam Lanza, shot her in the face, authorities told ABC News. The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza murdered his mother Nancy Lanza, a former student teacher aide at Sandy Hook Elementary School then drove her car to begin his murderous rampage, according to ABC News. Adam was dressed in all black military style battle fatigues accompanied by two handguns, a Glock, and a Sig Sauer along with a .223-caliber rifle which was found inside of a car in the parking lot.

Police say 27 people were killed in the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school, including the gunman, one person died at another scene (his mother). The dead at the school include 20 children, the schools principal Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, and other faculty. Many of the shootings took place inside of a kindergarten classroom, sources told the Hartford Courant. It is believed that Adam killed himself although details are not confirmed by law enforcement just how he died. Police officers have reported that no shots were fired on their behalf.

Nancy Lanza legally bought and owned the guns used in the Connecticut school shooting on Friday afternoon, according to NBC News. Marsha Lanza a relative of Nancy told ABCNews that Nancy had purchased guns because she was living alone in a big house.

Ryan Lanza, who was mistakenly identified as the shooter earlier Friday, described his younger brother as having a “personality disorder,” either Asperger’s or a form of autism, According to ABC News. A friend of Adam told CBS News that he was not a trouble maker, and seemed very polite.

Adam’s father, is Peter Lanza, a vice president of taxes for GE Energy Financial Services who lives in Stamford, Connecticut, according to The Stamford Advocate. Reports are that Lanza’s girlfriend was missing as of Friday afternoon.

Gun control may not stop people from killing, but assault weapons allow multiple murders in a short amount of time. If a murderer has to stop to reload after six shots there is a better chance he can be overcome and stopped. Maybe we should consider assault weapon control.

Tv shows, such as csi, ncis, law and order etc etc etc continue to show murder victims with a healthy glow to their skin and still looking gorgeous. Let me tell you, as someone who’s job is dealing with death on a regular basis, there is NOTHING sexy or beautiful about a murder victim. Yes, most adults know the difference between right and wrong and will never commit such foul acts regardless of how much tv they watch, but I fear for the generations that are exposed to this death loving obsessiveness day in and day out. I’m nearly 40 and it was never this bad when was growing up with regard to viewing violence on such a level.

  I am 50 years old and grew up in the country. Me and all of my friends have had guns all our life’s and nothing has ever happened like this. This was caused by a multitude of situations. First prayer being taken out of school. 2nd unchurched people with no God in their life. The parents are divorced. They make video games that shoot what I call avatars but IMHO can give ideas to people to go kill people. But to say that it was the gun’s fault is just stupid. I could make gasoline bombs that could kill more people with one throw then a gun will. Do we ban gasoline? Look at Duck Dynasty. The Robinson’s hunt with their guns. I don’t see any of them going and killing anyone. I grew up in Monroe/West Monroe, LA and everyone hunts there and we ALL own guns. This killer was not raised on shotgun, rifles, or 4 wheel drives therefore was not taught that even pointing a gun at someone loaded or not was a BIG no no and if you did point a gun at someone it was self defense only and better be ready to pull the trigger.

Truly I think the problem is the availability of quality mental health care. I can tell you that I took a child to 3 different mental health professionals – one was through my work’s employee assistance program – what a joke. Their care path was to evaluate for 8 weeks and then if needed recommend a psychiatrist – which they did not. They said to me “the child is normal – they are just acting out” … well this child was cutting and that is NOT normal. I backed off and was determined to keep a better eye on her. The cutting got worse – her depression was deep. Couldn’t get her out of bed, she felt she had no purpose in life. Took her to a psychiatrist – out of pocket expense – wow are they pricey. That psychiatrist did a 6 week evaluation – told me that she seemed okay, just a little blue. I was like REALLY because I’m so afraid she is going to kill herself. Well liked kid, why is she so sad. Finally the 3rd pay out of pocket psychiatrist I took her to was much more aggressive with treatment, acknowledged a problem – treated without drugs – set her straight – saw her 2 or 3 days a week – got her to communicate and focus – probably saved her life. Why is it so hard to get quality help, and why does it cost so much.

  You are so correct. I had a similar experience with a grandchild. They were popping Xanax like there was no tomorrow and I took them to 3 different facilities and had to private pay to get them admitted. Plus due to privacy laws many times the family is excluded and cannot tell the therapist what is really going on. Then there is the fact that therapists are afraid of telling anyone about a concern for fear of litigation.

There should be mental health fascillities in every community that offer free care to individuals or parents whose children / young adults/ 20 somethings that are exihibiting signs of mental issues/ instabilities..where do these famlies go for help before something bad happens…although it seems his Mother could afford it, Psychiatric help is unaffordable to the average individual/famlies, it shouldn’t be for only for the wealthy.

Guns really are not the problem. More security at high traffic areas and public places would be a great start. Also wouldn’t that help with jobs to in this country. We have so many people going to school for police science and they are put on waiting lists. This doesn’t make sense to me. this experience is so sad and makes you realize that you wont take your kids for granted. God bless the families and the community in CT. The main concern is the lack of mental health assistance available. perhaps if those issues are addressed instead of gun laws, it may prevent mentally ill people from using guns. if you look back and these last few massacres, it seems like all the suspects had some type of mental issue. deal with that first and not this “back and forth” with the gun laws and politicians. THere are millions of responsible americans who want to protect their family and they should not be affected by the possible change in these gun laws. the fact that an unstable 20 year old in CT went on a rampage should not affect me owning a gun to protect me/my family from robbers, rapists, etc. The right to bear arms is like the 2nd ammendment right?

Strict gun laws doesn’t stop anyone from getting them illegally. Like they do for drugs and alcohol. People with mental disorders need to get help. I think what most people are overlooking is the punishment for a crime committed in the US compared to a crime committed in other countries. Most countries, when you commit homicide, you are in jail for life! Our jails are country clubs compared to other countries. Our criminals have more rights than the victims do in the US! That is sad!
