A rare white rhino was born into captivity on Friday at the Tel Aviv Zoo in Israel.

According to the Tel Aviv Zoological Center after a year and a half of pregnancy the 20-year-old Mother named Tanda, gave birth to a healthy baby White Rhino named Terkel.

This birth is particularly important because the breed is on the “near threatened” list due to poachers who covet the Rhinos horn.

Baby White rhinos are rarely born into captivity, and this marks a very momentous event.

Each year some 300 rhinos are hunted and killed for their horns in the wild.
