Athens Georgia Mother Cassandra Elyse Norwood Charged With Stabbing Newborn Baby to Death. A young mother from Athens, 21-year-old Cassandra Elyse Norwood, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault in the death of her newborn baby boy, according to Athens Online .
Reports said that 21-year-old Cassandra Elyse Norwood had her baby in secret at the house where she lived with her parents and other relatives. Someone in the home found the lifeless newborn baby, who had died from “stab wounds and cuts”, and called the police shortly after 1pm on Thursday. Investigators decided to arrest Norwood and charge her with the newborn’s death. Norwood was taken to a hospital to be treated for delivery-related blood loss where she remained under guard before being transported to Clarke County Jail Friday morning.
Holeman would not speculate as to whether or not Norwood was suffering from postpartum psychosis or other mental illnesses, but said that “Norwood was not receiving psychiatric treatment at the hospital.”
