In a similar shape to an atomic bomb explosion, a giant mushroom cloud appeared over the city of Beijing on Sunday.
According to the Inquisitor, the Chinese government has ordered that all citizens in the area stay inside their homes in reaction to the giant mushroom cloud, which had the coloring of a green and red haze. While China’s warnings might seem concerning, China denies any industrial accident that could have led to the humongous cloud. However, according to The Economic Observer, the police in Beijing have arrested two Internet users who blogged that the haze was being caused by a massive chlorine leak at a chemical plant or a huge explosion at a nearby steel refinery.
Yet, in the nearby city of Xinhua, the official government news agency speculates that the haze and mushroom cloud is caused by residents on the outskirts of the city burning straw and have also denied any type of industrial accidents.
China also denies that this surprising incident has anything to do with its high pollution problem. The population of China is about 1.3 billion, making air pollution a huge problem in the region. However, China continues to downplay the severity of the issue, even going as far as warning to the United states Embassy in Beijing to stop publishing daily pollution warnings as they are against international conventions and domestic Chinese law just earlier this month.
The video of the giant mushroom cloud has already appeared all over the web and YouTube, where there are multiple videos of the cloud that have been filmed from skyscrapers and from the ground dating as far back as June 14th.
The Chinese government has made no comment to international reporters about the incident and continues to deny any pollution involvement.
