Chandra Wisnu, otherwise known as the bubble skin man for his debilitating skin disease that leaves him fully covered with itchy red bumps, is seeking a cure on TLC, not only for himself, but for his children.
57-year-old Indonesian Chandra Wisnu will be featured in a TLC documentary series “Bubble Skin Man,” that debuts on June 20. Wisnu has been suffering from the skin disease for over 30 years. As the disease worsened, Wisnu felt his whole life change as he told News.com.au,
“People are afraid, they are frightened of my horrible face and worried they might catch the disease. So instead I avoid people, I rarely go out except to pick up my daughter from school. And when I do I cover my head and my face because I don’t want my daughter’s friends to bully her for having ‘the dad with the horrible face’.”
In the early stages of the disease, Wisnu’s parents took him to numerous dermatologists, who were all confounded by the severity of the disease according to the Huffington Post. Wisnu has yet to find an effective cure for his disease:
“There was no special treatment for my disease. I was just told to see one dermatologist after another because they did not know how to treat me.”
While Wisnu spent most of his days trying to stay as hidden as possible, he is now speaking out about his disease in hopes that doctors can help seek a cure for his children who have started to show signs of having the disease.
“They only have some small tumors now but they worry they will get worse,” Winsu said. “If there is a chance to get such kind of free medication, I will take that chance, but right now my family is all the treatment I need.”
