Parents of a 17 year old girl are now being held on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and one count of discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle.
The San Francisco couple allegedly went on a manhunt across the state of California looking for 22-year old Calvin Sneed.
Sneed who was also said to be a member of the Nutty Block Crips was shot and killed on June 4th outside of Candelstick Park in San Francisco. The alleged shooters are the parents of a run away 17 year old girl who had allegedly been working the streets for Sneed.
The parents Barry Gilton and Lupe Mercado are also being accused of trying to kill Sneed in a North Hollywood shooting that had failed back in May.
According to the LA TIMES the parents contend that they had tried to persuade their daughter to come home, but she did not listen. They even tried to go to law enforcement several times to get their underage daughter back.
The prosecution is claiming that this was a premeditated murder. ”We have substantial evidence to believe that this was a premeditated event,” Dist. Atty. George Gascon said Thursday. He also went on to say that as a father he understands “the frustration that the parents must have felt…. But taking the law into your own hands is not an acceptable solution.”
According to a police report, there was no surveillance video available of the scene where an “unidentified suspect approached on foot” and fired nine shots.
Both parents are being held on a $2 million bail each.
