A man that was suppose to serve and protect, a child investigator is arrested for having sex with a foster teen.
According to the Huffington Post, a Florida Department of Children and Families investigator attempting to flee the country has been arrested on 5 counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, one of the victims he was assigned to protect from such abuse. The victim was discovered in the FBI prostitution bust that took place last week.
According to the records, the Department of Children and Family Services placed the teen under investigator Jean LaCroix‘s protection for a month, however, cell phone records show that they had been engaged in a relationship for much longer than a month. While the 17-year-old Miami teen told authorities of their relationship, she also stated that she and the 46-year-old case worker had had “consensual sexual intercourse on numerous occasions.”
The Department of Children and Family Services supervisor, Esther Jacobo told reporters that once they got wind of the inappropriate relationship, they took swift action and placed LaCroix on paid administrative leave immediately while also restricting his access to children and DCF files. She told reporters, “We did not fire him immediately in part because law enforcement asked us not to fire him immediately so that they could conduct appropriate investigations and prosecute the case.”
In an attempt to flee the country and avoid prosecution, LaCroix booked a decoy flight from New York to the Dominican Republic to throw off local and federal agents, while he actually took another flight to the Dominican. However, upon landing, customs agents refused him entry and sent him back to New York where he was arrested Saturday evening.
No comment has been made from LaCroix or his attorney about the case or his attempt to flee the country.
