A Coca Cola Ad called racist for its depiction of an Arab man walking through the desert with a camel. The Coca-Cola ad was supposed to be aired during the Super Bowl this Sunday but it appears those plans may have changed.
The ad that is being called racist was released last week, Reuters reported. In the ad, an Arab walking through a desert runs into cowboys, Las Vegas showgirls, and a crew of marauders in the style of the movie Mad Max, all of them racing to reach a giant bottle of Coke.
“The Coke commercial for the Super Ball is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world,” Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email.
“Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists, or belly dancers?” said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC.
Just as many are upset over the alleged racism in the video clip others are just as mystified by the allegation that in anyway the advertisement is racist. Watch the video and you decide if the commercial perpetuates negative racial stereotypes towards those of Arabic decent.
