In a tragic incident, a bride falls from rocks and drowns during her photo shoot after being married for only two months.
According to the Daily Mail, 30-year-old real estate agent Maria Pantazopoulos drowned after her dress got wet and she was dragged into the river near a ‘violently’ rushing waterfall in Canada. The incident occurred while Maria was taking part in a common and growing ritual called “Trash the Dress,” in which a bride poses for photos in her wedding gown while she is destroying the dress.
Maria’s body was found two hours after she fell in Ouareau River near Dorwin Falls, north of Montreal, on Friday afternoon. The photographer, Louis Pagakis, attempted to save her according to his account of the incident. In an emotional interview with CTV, Louis states that Maria said, “‘take some pictures of me while I swim a little bit in the lake,’ she went in and her dress got heavy, I tried everything I could to save her.”
According to Quebec provincial police spokesman Sgt. Ronald McInnis, “She was doing the photo shoot in about six inches or one foot of water when part of her wedding dress got soaked and became extremely heavy. She started slipping and falling down when the photographer grabbed her but she was too heavy that he couldn’t pull her from the edge. Another person tried to grab her but also was unable to save her from falling into the river.”
A civilian diver who was familiar with the river volunteered to search for Maria’s body, which was found 100 ft from the intitial area in which she fell. Maria was found at the bottom of the 20 ft deep river. Meanwhile, the photographer and the assistant were sent to the hospital to be treated for shock.
The bride’s husband was not at the photo shoot and has yet to make a comment about his wife’s tragic death.
