The Democratic National Convention went out of their way to honor retired Adm. John Nathman. The problem? The ships displayed on the jumbo screen weren’t apart of the American Fleet but those of the Russian Fleet.

According to the NavyTimes the ships that were pictured were a part of the Kara-class cruiser Kerch.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

The man who discovered the error was immediately shocked at what he was seeing on the big screen as the Admiral was being honored.

I was kind of in shock,” said Rob Barker, 38, a former electronics warfare technician who left the Navy in 2006. The DNC did get the aircraft correct those are Navy F-5 Training jets.

The incident occurred on the last night of the DNC Sept. 6th. As of now there is no official statement from Democratic National Convention officials.
