No one can deny the fact that the 2012 presidential election will be a hotly contested race. This election will be much more heated than the 2008 election, where Obama won in a landslide victory over McCain. Both Romney and Obama need to focus on certain keys to win the election.

Keys for Romney/Ryan:

The Romney campaign can not go negative when it comes to attacking Obama personally. People like him as a person and think he is a good family man. Obama’s likeability is almost double what Romney’s is. So Romney’s negative ads need to focus on the policies rather than Obama’s personality. Also the Romney campaign needs to focus on three key issues that are on the minds of the American people, the economy and jobs, the national debt, and the health care bill. If the campaign focuses on the issues and show how the Obama administration is not taking the country in the right direction when it comes to those issues, they can change the minds of Independents and gain more votes. Paul Ryan being nominated as Vice-President has really helped Romney look more comfortable when giving speeches at rally’s and he looks a lot more energized. Ryan has really energized the republican/conservative base and will be a positive asset to the campaign.

Keys to the Obama/Biden Campaign:

Obama is a very likeable guy, people are going to vote for him based on his personally rather than policy. Obama is a good campaigner no one can take that away from him, he is a very good speaker and can energize a crowd. But when it comes to his record at this point in time it isn’t the greatest that an incumbent president could want. Obama is going to have to go on the offensive and talk about how the stimulus helped saved jobs, and how his healthcare bill is a positive thing for the country. Also he is going to have to show how he is going to cut the national debt and help create jobs for the middle class. Obama needs to turn his record into something he can run on rather than something he is hiding from.

Overall Thoughts:

I would love to think this campaign for president is going to be one solely based on the issues, but we all know this is going to be one of the dirtiest, most personal campaigns in the history of our nation. But I think we have two clear distinctions for the direction of our country with Romney/Ryan and Obama/Biden and hopefully people will vote based on that rather than who dug up the most dirt on the other side. Swing states are going to be the deciding factor in this election, the Republicans need to win Ohio and Florida or they will loose the election.
