In a tragic event, the family of a 23 year old woman who fell to her death sues the hotel and the event hosts for $500,000 after she slid down a banister that killed her.
According to the Daily Mail, parents James and Deborah Duskey have launched a lawsuit against the party’s hosts and the exclusive Chicago hotel where it was held after their daughter, Megan Duskey, fell to her death while sliding on the hotel banister. The event took place at the Palmer House Hilton’s Haunted Hotel Ball, where Megan was one of 2,000 guests celebrating with her girlfriends.
Megan slipped while sliding down the staircase and toppled from the mezzanine-level banister, where she plummeted down four stories to the basement at 10.30pm on October 30, 2010. Her parents filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in Cook County, where the suit names Hilton Worldwide, the Palmer House Hilton, Surreal Chicago and Adrenaline Y2K and claims their daughter died as a result of their combined negligence. The suit specifically claims that the named parties did not provide proper security and safety measures as they let guests consume an unlimited amount of alcohol.
A close friend of Megan, Elisa Pessetto said she only stepped away for a few minutes before the incident happened. Upon her return, she noticed two of her friends collapsed on the floor weeping, “I couldn’t even understand what they were saying. Then someone said Megan fell.”
Guests tried unsuccessfully to reach Megan after she fell, however, as party guest Ben Clements explains, “It seems like it was an area where not a lot of people could go to. It was very secluded; no one really knew where this girl had fell. I tried to find, the nearest security guard, kind of ask him, you know, ‘What’s going on? Why is everybody evacuating the place?’ He really didn’t have any answers.”
However, the one person who managed to get to Megan was her cousin, who was holding her lifeless body while firefighters arrived on the scene.
