For Canadian lobster boat captain Bobby Stoddard and crew who were out working, hauling in their lobster traps one day in early May they almost couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw a Bright Blue Lobster in with the other red ones.  One of the men yelled out, “Hey, we got a pretty one in this trap!”

“This is the only one that I’ve ever seen,” he told CNN. “And my dad has been a lobsterman of about 55 years, and he caught one about 45 years ago, but hadn’t seen one since.”

“My dad caught one about 40 years ago, and he said that’s the only one he’s ever seen,” said Stoddard.

According to the University of Maine Lobster Institute, blue lobsters are a one-in-2-million phenomenon.

The rare crustacean was put on the selling block, for $200.00, but quickly removed when he started getting hate mail.

For now the Beautiful Blue Lobster is sitting in his tank at home feeding on pieces of fish. The man is not sure what to do with the Lobster, and is considering putting it back in the Ocean.

Stoddard said “I don’t know what the best thing is to do,” “It probably belongs back in the ocean, but I’d like for as many people as possible to see it.”
