Gabby Douglas, the 16-year-old ‘Flying Squirrel’, who stands just 4 feet 11 inches tall has made us all proud by helping the USA women’s gymnastic team win a Gold medal for the first time since 1996.
Then in the Individual all-around Gabby Douglas edged out all other gymnasts with a score of 62.232, becoming the fourth American woman to ever win gold in the event.
Former Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1996 team Dominique Dawes was so moved by her performance that should could hardly hold her emotions.
She says that Gabby’s all around gold will open up so many doors for a whole generation of young girls and boys – African Americans, Hispanics and other minorities.
