In an attempt to encourage better preparation for genuine disasters and emergencies, Homeland Security gives warnings of a zombie apocalypse.

According to the Huffington Post, the government urged citizens Thursday to prepare for a zombie apocalypse as they feel the same preparations will help during a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake or terrorist attack. For its Citizen Corps organization, the Federal Emergency Management Agency hosted an online seminar in order to help emergency planners better prepare their communities for disaster, zombie or natural. The same method was used by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last year with the use of a social media campaign.

With Halloween coming next month, emergency planners and organizers were encouraged to use the zombie theme to get citizens prepared for a more possible disaster. The government recommended having an emergency escape plan, extra medications, emergency flashlights as well as having fresh water and extra clothing on hand. Going along with the scenario of a zombie attack, some of the government’s suggested derived from the popular movie “Zombieland,” which came out in 2009, such as ”when in doubt, know your way out,” and ”always carry a change of underwear.”
