Is America fading away, is what this country stands for no longer held in reverent esteem? I think sadly not, it has been forgotten I fear, and because of this our nation is in serious trouble. One of the reasons I have this opinion is based on this post from 2 years ago by a High School student:
Can my school make me say the pledge of allegiance (and stop when the pledge is being said)?
Alright, I find that this whole pledge of allegiance **** is directly the opposite of what America stands for, I love all the freedoms that America stands for, but I will not worship a flag or anything else, I don’t worship anything…
At my high school I never say the pledge, and I never stop when the pledge is being said, and the administrators always stop me and say do I want a detention etc. threaten me, and I am wondering if that is even legal..I mean can they make me say the pledge / stop walking when the pledge is being said? Because this seems like a crock of ****, **** the pledge and **** the flag, America rules but I’m not going to worship some ******* colors and some bullshit song THAT WAS ACTUALLY MADE BY A BRITISH GUY!!

You say F the pledge and F the flag? Come on kid…..you are really dumb you know that? You don’t have two flipping cents of an idea what you are talking about. Actually you don’t know what you are talking about. The original pledge was composed by a man born in New York. Wow, you are dumb kid. Really dumb. Do America a favor and stop talking. You are making us look bad.
Wow, you tell us what you don’t stand for. Now tell us what you do stand for? Or is being a petulant liberal brat all you have and you think you are making a stand? Grow up kid. There is a big world out there.
Now, I honor the flag. I took an oath to the constitution when I enlisted and I took an oath to honor this country. I will pledge my allegiance to the flag and this nation. Thank god there are men and women out there still like me. If there were more of your kind, we would kiss our freedoms goodbye. Petulant brats didn’t make this country. Men and women, who understand what real honor and respect is, made this country.
Now I think that if you are a true American, this student would make you angry. What is wrong with this student? I fear it is the people of authority in his life, the ones he or she looks up to, are the ones that have instilled the disdain for our flag, and our country. The answer to this post, that was picked as the best, also disturbs me. Is this the best answer to this question? A lot of you would probably agree that it is, but I don’t think so. I feel that even though the question is asked in such an angry fashion, the answer should be given in a more even tempered way. Don’t get me wrong I agree with the response, but not the way it was given. The student has the right to his or her opinion; this is given to them by the Constitution. Our responsibility is to try to help them change their mind in a reasonable way.
Now you can see why I am concerned for America. Not only do we have the student that doesn’t understand patriotism, but the people that he or she looks up to evidently don’t understand either. These people are voters, they may even be people who run and hold elected offices. We complain loudly, and sometimes with antagonistic rhetoric, when someone does or says something that goes against our personal beliefs. We also get very angry when they do this in the same antagonistic way. We need to have a more even tempered approach to the conversation. Sadly some people don’t respond to this approach, the only way to get through to them is through anger and violence. This doesn’t change their opinion of us or our ideas, but it does get rid of our problem. It is a sad truth, and an approach that I wish that we would never have to use.
My point to this whole argument is that I am scared that America is fast approaching its demise. The more I look at newspapers, listen to the news, and peruse the social media; I see the values that have made this country great rapidly disappearing. Is there a way to stop this erosion? The simple answer is yes, but in this case the simple answer is probably not the correct answer. To get America back to what it once was would mean that we would have to change the minds of a lot of people who don’t see anything drastically wrong with it. THIS IS THE REAL PROBLEM!
We no longer have the role models that could lead us to our resurrection. Our elected officials are leading us to financial ruin, and taking our government apart piece by piece. This is not just in the Democratic Party, but in all parties. The American way is falling to the wayside. Now you will remind me that on September 11th, our nation and its leaders came together as one, but did they really? Did they come together or were they just doing what they thought they were expected to do? I don’t know for sure, do you? I believe that the majority of the average American people did come together for the right reasons, and this made me proud, but what about the rest? These people are the real problem that faces America today. The economy and everything else that is being discussed today is a direct result of the people that no longer believe in the American way. It has taken years to get to the point we are at today, and I feel it will take years to turn it around. I sincerely hope that someone smarter then I will step forward and inspire us all to take America back. I’m sorry if this is a negative article that it maybe depresses your soul, but I have not heard anyone who has had a viable idea on correcting the course we find ourselves on. I just hear complaining, and anger, of which I too am guilty of. The only way to change the minds of a nation is with someone to step forward and define a course for America that all will agree upon.
