In what started out as a joke, a man pays off his mortgage using 800 pounds of pennies in Boston at Milford Federal Savings and Loan.
According to CBS News, 35-year-old Thomas Daigle thought it would be a funny joke to walk into Milford Federal Savings and Loan and pay off his debt and mortgage using 800 pounds of pennies. “It started out as a joke. I said I’m going to pay the last mortgage payment off on this place in pennies.”
Looking for a hobby, Daigle started counting his change and rolling his pennies. He proclaims, “One thing led to another and all of a sudden there’s a serious amount of rolls of pennies. I said you know this is something I can do.” It was then on his 35th wedding anniversary, Daigle and his wife Sandra walked into Milford Federal Savings and Loan and paid off their mortgage with over 800 pounds of pennies.
While glad to be rid of the money that was in his house, Daigle says the more important lessen is to stay true to your word. “Do what you say you are going to do.” No word yet from Milford Federal Savings and Loan about the comical incident.
