Heartbreak is never easy, and after losing his girlfriend, one man who gave the world his phone number gets over 70000 responses from all over the world.
According to the Daily Mail, Jeff Ragsdale, a stand-up comedian and actor from New York, was left near suicidal after breaking up with his girlfriend. However, in a comedic and ironic twist, the lonely man gained thousands of friends worldwide when he decided to put fliers up all over New York saying: “If anyone wants to talk about anything, call me (347) 469-3173. Jeff, one lonely guy.”
The response was overwhelming, as Ragsdale said, “Immediately, New Yorkers started calling in overwhelming numbers and after a week it went viral and people from all over the world were calling.” The numbers were immense as he received 100 calls and texts in the first day alone. The number grew from there as a week later, it was up to one thousand. The number stands at more than 70,000, and calls and texts are still coming thick and fast even after eight months.
While the numbers are amazing in itself, the variety of people contacting Ragsdale was astonishing. People ranging from prisoners needing consolation to daily New Yorkers just wanting a chat contacted Ragsdale. Moreover, his number reached world status as people from Vietnam, England, Saudi Arabia and Japan were calling in to talk to the self-proclaimed lonely man. The 40-year-old says he still keeps in touch with nearly 20 people he felt a connection with.
Ragsdale was so touched and overwhelmed by all the stories and conversations he had with those who contacted him that he decided to write a book about it that resulted in a memoir titled, “Jeff, One Lonely Guy,” which was released in March of this year.
When asked what was the most important lesson he has learned from this experience, Ragsdale said, “The two main things that have given me a different perspective on life that I’ve learned is forgiveness. You should forgive everyone no matter what they did as it frees up your energy.”
