The young college star and devote Mormon lost his grandmother Annette Santiago who passed away on September 11th, 2012 just 6 hours before his girlfriend Lennay Kekua making the day and especially somber one for the young athlete. Upon the wishes of his late girlfriend, Te’o remained strong in his college football career and helped propel Notre Dame into the national championship running.
Te’o who grew up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, was one of the most decorated high school athletes in Hawaii’s history according to Wikipedia.
