At the 2012 London Olympics Michael Phelps picks up his Olympic Record 19th Gold Medal. 

The Record game on the 4×200-meter freestyle relay Tuesday night. Phelps swam the final legal of relay to ensure the American’s took home the gold. 

The previous Olympic record for most medals was held by Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina where she had 18.

Phelps entered the night with 17 medals, wining silver in the 200-meter butterfly and then gold in the 4×200, swimming the two races a little over one hour apart.

The gold also marks Phelps 15th Gold Medal which is 6 more than any other Olympian has ever gotten. Phelps has under performed this Olympics by his standards.
