As the jury read the guilty verdict the millionaire appeared to swallow a substance, after taking a swig from a sports drink. The man who could be seen cuffing his hands over his mouth then falling into convulsions seven minutes later before falling over dead.
The man was 53 year old Michael Marin, a former Wallstreet trader from Phoenix who was known to live a very extravagant lifestyle until he could no longer afford his mansion. He then resorted to burning his mansion to the ground in an apparent arson crime.
He was found guilty of arson, and that is why it is believed he would have committed suicide in the court room. Allegedly he was worried he would be sentenced to 16 years in jail, and instead of going through that it is believed he opted for suicide.
Although toxicology reports have not been released that is what is believed to have been the cause of death. Police intend to test the sports drink that he drank out of as well.
According to the Arizona Republic “His mansion caught fire in July 2009. Marin said he barely escaped by climbing down a rope ladder from the second floor while wearing a scuba tank and diving mask to protect him from smoke inhalation.”
Tough economic times across the world have resulted in many Millionaire suicides.
