A South Alabama Police Officer fatally shot Gilbert Thomas Collar at the University of Alabama after the naked 18-year-old failed to follow his commands to stop charging the officer.
South Alabama University officials said that the confrontation occurred after the officer went outside the police station to investigate a banging noise that was coming from his office window.
Once outside he says he discovered Collar acting aggressive which eventually lead to him discharging his weapon.
The shooting occurred 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning outside the USA Police Department on Stadium Drive.
According to the Montgomery Advertiser Collar was a standout on the wrestling team at Wetumpka High School for six years, with coach Jeff Glass calling him a “remarkable young man.”
Local prosecutors are investigating the shooting. The officer who fired the shot has been placed on paid administrative leave.
