While security cameras in a person’s home is often the subject of debate, a nanny cam catches a nanny suffocating an infant.
According to KHOU News, a nanny accused of smothering a baby multiple times a day after being caught on a hidden camera appeared in court Friday morning. 48-year-old Tirza Magana was charged with the felony of endangering a child and is currently out on a $10,000 bond.
Magana was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a Montrose-area couple saw the disturbing video of her suffocating their child on their secretly placed nanny cam. Magana was hired to watch and take care of the baby in early January. It was not until May where the parents noticed the child acting strange.
After the parents noticed the significant change the baby was exhibiting, they set up a hidden nanny cam and saw first hand how Magana was treating the child. According to the court documents, they found Magana carrying the baby around by the head, tossing her in the crib and smothering the child on more than one occasion. After they watched the horrifying video, the couple fired Magana and called the police.
Authorities state that Magana admitted that she smothered the baby multiple times a day for a month. Authorities also noted that the former nanny even realized that her actions could have caused the baby’s death.
