Marina Krim walked in on one of the worst possible scenarios a parent could discover when she found her children’s long time nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, slitting her own throat. Authorities suspect she murdered two of Krim’s children prior to turning the knife on herself.
Mrs. Krim, whose husband is the senior vice president and general manager of CNBC Digital, returned home at 5:30 pm Thursday after nanny Yoselyn Ortega failed to meet her and her daughter Nessie, age 3, for an appointment at a nearby studio.
Marina Krim returned to her home, a three-bedroom, $10,000-a-month apartment at West 75th Street on Manhattan’s affluent Upper West Side near Central Park.
After checking with her doorman, according to police, Mrs. Krim returned to her dark apartment to find her children, 6-year-old Lulu and 2-year-old Leo, lifeless and laying in a bathtub and bleeding from multiple stab wounds.
Nanny Yoselyn Ortega turned the weapon on herself when Mrs. Krim arrived home to the grisly scene. Ortega was treated for stab wounds to the neck and wrists.

According to The New York Times, neighbors have reported that Ortega is a naturalized U.S. citizen from the Dominican Republic and was going through a hard time in in the months leading up to Thursday’s tragedy. Ortega had gone from “gregarious, greeting neighbors with hola- vecina (neighbor), to avoiding eye contact and saying little.”

Sadly, the two young children have been pronounced dead. Yoselyn Ortega remains in critical condition and police hope to question her before filing charges against her.
