A New York police officer shot and killed his son after thinking he was an intruder.
The shooter was 59-year-old Michael Leach, of Rochester New York, his son was 37-year-old Matthew Leach.
The two were on a Weekend getaway with a group of police officers who had driven to Old Forge New York on their motorcycles for a long-weekend getaway.
The incident occurred at 12:50 A.M when Matthew entered into the Hotel room, and his father opened fire with a .45-caliber Glock handgun, police said.
The elder Leach called police claiming that he had shot an intruder.
Very little details were available on the shooting other than the father appeared very distraught when law enforcement discovered the son.
Police Capt. Francis Coots of Troop D said an autopsy is expected to be performed Sunday, and state police are still investigating the circumstances that lead up to the shooting.
