The image above shows just how the artist from Zaragoza, Spain, modified the image originally painted by Elias Garcia Martinez. On the Left is the original painting of Christ called “Ecce Homo (Behold the Man). On the right is the touch of work that the woman did for the church.
The masterpiece was in need of touch work because it began deteriorating over time.
According to the BBC reports when the woman realized her mistake she contacted Juan Maria Ojeda, a city council member in charge of cultural affairs for the area. “I think she had good intentions,” Ojeda told the BBC.
All indications are that it was an accident but very controversial accident at that.
A restoration team will question the woman on the materials, and paint used so they can decide on a way to correct the painting.
