Once hailed by British media as the worlds fattest man, Paul Mason is showing us that that title no longer applies. The Ipswich, England resident has shed 644 pounds! That’s a mind-blowing weight loss!
Why would someone become 644 pounds too heavy in the first place? Well, Paul Mason’s story is a heartbreaking one.
The 52 year old former postal worker suffered at the hands of physical and verbal abuse as a child. Between the ages of 6 and 9 Paul was the victim of sexual abuse by a female relative; a secret he kept for a long time.
As an adult the death of his father, a terrible divorce, and being the sole caregiver of his sickly mother were causes that sparked the pained man’s over eating.
The Paul Mason weight loss story is an incredible one
In a recent interview with The Inquisitor, Paul opened up about his heart wrenching story,
“I still had all these things going around in my head from my childhood. Food replaced the love I didn’t get from my parents.”
The tragedy of Mr. Masons story, sadly, doesn’t end there. The Social Security Paul received for not only himself but his mother was spent consistently, in it’s entirety, on food items. This overindulgence forced the bank to foreclose on his home.
After downsizing to a smaller residence, Paul reached a staggering 980 pounds! Of course the Englishman was left immobile and confined to his bedroom.
In 2002 the local fire department was forced to tear through the front of his home and lift him up by forklift in an effort to get him to the hospital for a much needed hernia operation. This incident was what caught the media’s attention and stirred the growing emotional pain of being ‘the worlds fattest man’.
A beautiful positive came out of the seemingly embarrassing occurrence with the fire department and his transportation issues; he saw the light of hope.
After years in rehabilitation, a gastric bypass surgery, and finding a therapist to assist him in confronting the demons of his food addiction, Paul Mason is now 336 pounds; getting ever closer to his goal of 210 pounds.

Paul Mason is quoted as saying,
“My meals are a lot different now than they used to be. Food is a necessity, but now I don’t let it control my life anymore.”
