Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) justified his extreme opposition of abortion by claiming that victims of “legitimate rape” rarely get pregnant. Akin said that victims of rape should not get an abortion because the one punished should be the rapist, not the child.

Akin said in an interview with KTVI-TV that rape victims rarely get pregnant because the female body has a way of stopping the body from creating a child.

Akin’s also recently suggested banning the morning-after pill  in an interview with KCMO Radio “As far as I’m concerned, the morning-after pill is a form of abortion, and I think we just shouldn’t have abortion in this country”.

His opposition hopes they can prove to the residents of Missouri that Akin is out of touch with the people.
