Image of Brianna Gentry by KTLA
A young lady who is not used to being in trouble and misses her older brother faced potential expulsion after putting a photo of her brother on her binder.
The mother of San Bernadino middle schooler Brianna Gentry, 13, was outraged when the school pulled her out of the AVID program for having added material. Brianna keeps a picture of her older brother Derrick on her notebook, along with shots of her softball team.
Because Briana is a member of the AVID program for top students . The school says the images were breaking an unwritten rule because they were added material.
AVID says that their rules are different from the rest of the school, and images are not allowed on binders, not even images of family.
Brianna says she keeps the image of her brother on her binder as a reminder of him, since she can’t seem him as much as she likes.
After pressure from Local Media outlets the school has decided to allow her to keep the picture of her brother but the softball picture had to go. She agreed saying that’s the most important thing to her.
