Sonia Dridi was the most recent reported to be attacked by a mob of men during a broadcast in Egypt.
France 24 TV’s Sonia Dridi was attacked by a group of men around 10:30pm on Friday near Cairo’s Tahrir Square after being seized by a crowd, the network said Saturday.
Ashraf Khalil, who was on scene with Dridi during the attack said it took about half an hour for the attack and rescue, but it felt like a lot longer.
“The crowd surged in and then it went crazy. It was basically me keeping her in a bear hug, both arms around her and face-to-face,” he said, estimating that at least 30 men were involved.
Sonia Dridi was eventually rushed to safety inside a Fast Food restaurant that had a metal door.
