The man with a 200 pound tumor is the subject of TLC’s new show as the first look at 31-year-old Vietnam native Hai will be shown on Wednesday, June 6, 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
According to the Huffington Post, Hai has been bed ridden for six years due to a genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors to grow on nerves in the body. The tumor, which is nearly twice Hai’s size, has usurped one of his legs and feet entirely.
Because the tumor is taking away so much of Hai’s blood supply, doctors have predicted that he has less than a year to live. Dr. McKay McKinnon from Chicago, a renowned plastic surgeon who has helped many patients with fatal tumors around the world, has to traveled to Ho Chi Minh City to meet Hai and look at all of his options for treatment.
However, even with surgery, the chances are slim for Hai to survive as any surgery will leave him with a hip-level amputation on one side of his body.
