In video footage of an American Apache Helicopter pilot firing a Hellfire missile at Afghan Poppy farmers you can hear the pilot singing the Don McLean classic “bye bye miss american pie”.
The caption for the video which was released by Liveleak.com says the farmers were planting poppy seeds in the road, and were targeted for no reason. However others will argue that the Apache Helicopter pilots knew what they were doing, and targeted the men because they were planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The pilot’s going by the call sign “Mexican” are from the 101st Airborne Division and are not being named at this time. However some in the media have tried to portray these pilots as villains because of their language, and mission objective.
If these Afghan farmers were indeed planting poppy seeds in the middle of the road, then the U.S pilots were out of bounds with their actions. However one would have to believe that many poppy farmers don’t choose roads as ideal locations for poppies. Neither of the stories have been confirmed at this moment.
The video of the event involving United States Helicopter pilot singing can be seen below.
As of now the U.S. Military has declined to comment on the incident.
