He certainly had major issues. He was subject to outbursts from what I recall.” Moreover, friends and officials are now stating that Adam Lanza suffered from Asperger’s syndrome or a personality disorder, and had a tortured mind. The insider told reporters, “He was smart. He was like one of these real brainiac computer kind of kids.”

In any case the Bushmaster found in the trunk was a semi automatic, not the military/law enforcement automatic. No different from a semi automatic hunting rifle. This was not a “Machine Gun” it just looks like one.

Parenting a child with a profound mental disability is particularly difficult and requires community support. John (@ihomenuk’s) response is childish at best. Not surprised? Really, then why did you not offer support or were you one of those kids who pointed out Adams difference as too “weird” to allow into your special little group? You are an arrogant schmuck for making such a stupid statement as “Burn in hell”. People with profound mental illness lead torturous lives and quite often live in constant hell. Loneliness and instability, make them particularly vulnerable to psychosis and that is no more difficult to see coming than a freight train. We have to educate ourselves about warning signs. I do not know Adam Lanza but I have little doubt his deterioration was not evident. Sometimes those closest to those who suffer are in the greatest denial about the gravity of such psychosis which is why community support is so important. Sadly, it is also a huge red flag to absolutely restrict access to weapons of any kind to people suffering with psychosis. With so few choices and resources available for long-term treatment and recovery too many families are left to handle these challenges on their own.
Knowing all of the above does not diminish the horrific loss of these precious young children and the heroic staff who also lost their lives. We are not doing their memory any service by refusing to recognize our own inadequacies in preventing such horror. There is no excuse (except for profiteering) for not correcting our second amendment. We have altered our freedom of speech to disallow hate speech or that which incites violence or panic. The Founding Fathers could not have foreseen these acts because familial and community support surrounding families with troubled children was much stronger and weapons were far less accessible. We need to be educated about mental illness, not only it’s legacy but also it’s pattern’s and resolutions. Mentally ill people are not hopeless, we need to open our minds to understand their needs. These troubled people often have much to contribute, it is up to us to reach them and their families before tragedy occurs.

I’m wondering what the connection was to Sandy Hook as well. Possible theories that I’ve thought of is whether or not any of the children or school employees were neighbors or somehow connected to the Lanzas? It seems as though he had a plan and targeted one classroom of students. Was this class closest to his entrance point? At 20 years old, what was Adam doing with his life? Did he go or attempt to go to college? Was he working? Did he recently apply or get turned down from a job? Im wonderng if he had some sort of sexual dissorder… as sick as it sounds, was there some sort of fascination with children? Like many, I’m not certain of the motive… Was he trying to shock the world by targeting the most innocent of all human kind, Or was there a connection somehow? There has to be some kind of connection to sandy hook.
