As the tragic story unfolds, spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Paul Berry issued a statement to reporters stating, “The brothers had been playing in the sand together when the younger son came to the father, alerting him that the older brother wasn’t moving.”
It appears that while the brothers were playing in a sand pile, young Logan buried his brother alive. When he noticed that Wyatt McDaniel wasn’t moving, Logan alerted his father, Charlie, who unsuccessfully tried to revive his son using CPR.
Paramedics also tried to revive the boy using CPR, however, Wyatt McDaniel was pronounced dead while he was being airlifted by a helicopter from the family’s farm.
While police are still investigating the cause of the incident, it is believed that the boys dug a hole in a pile of loose beach sand at the horse farm and Logan may have piled the sand on top of his brother Wyatt, causing him to inhale sand and suffocate.
According to Berry, “No one actually saw it (the incident). Clearly there was an accident with sand. And it appeared as if he suffocated, but that needs to be determined by the medical examiner.”
Due to the tragic loss of their son Wyatt McDaniel, the family has received overwhelming support from their community as members have tied orange ribbons, Wyatt’s favorite color, around Wilderness Oaks Elementary School.
