Update From Spanish translator: “The cops are not from national Spanish police force, they are from “Mossos d’Esquadra”, an autonomic police force from Catalonia.

The parents told press that the cops didn’t allowed ambulances coming to help their son, so they had to carry him to the hospital in a particular car.

The official statement from police officers says that the police officer hit the bag of one violent demonstrator who he was chasing, and after the hit on the bag, accidentally, his baton hit the head of the 13yo boy.

They also say that the second police officer hitting him was unaware about what just happened and he hit the boy again with a “defense hit” to cover himself. They don’t talk about the girl who was beaten with no reason. The family of the boy is going to press charges against the police officers, but they didn’t show any ID.”

Video Published to YouTube by Jordi Salvia was translated to English and said this:

“The child was transported to a hospital by private car, since, as reported by parents, Police prevented an ambulance agree to meet the child. Once at the hospital the child has received four stitches and was discharged immediately.”

The video was posted to Reddit by scruti. The title of the post was “This happened today in Spain. The boy is 13 and did not participate in the strike.”

Notice the title of the video. And also notice that the police were already chasing him. They bypassed other people. So what happened before the clip started? What did this kid do to get the cops attention? I’m pretty sure that cops in Spain just don’t walk around in riot gear cracking skulls of passers by. Looks like a protest and not the passive quiet peaceful kind. Did the parents bring their child into this situation? Oh and in case ya didn’t know, medics/EMS don’t carry weapons. They are on stand by and do not get deployed into volatile situations until things are calm and controlled. That way they don’t become victims and have to be rescued themselves.
I’m not condoning the actions in the video. I’m just saying get the whole story before ya judge.

  Watch again. The police were chasing another guy, who kept running. They “accidentally” hit the boy, then another cop stopped to hit the boy when he was on the ground. The one they were chasing kept running.

  Additionally, you don’t often see old women in nice clothes carrying shopping bags in violent protests. And clearly, cops in Spain *do* just walk around cracking skulls. Look at the girl who was unarmed and angry (yelling). She gets beaten with a baton several times for yelling. Not attacking, not threatening.

    With the boy, it does look accidental (well the first hit) The 2nd cop, not so much. I give u that…can see the initial guy running off. As far as the girl…no pity. The whole region is in turmoil. 10s of thousands people upset and rioting. It’s been going on for a while now. Thus the cops in riot gear. It’s hard for me to believe that these people accidentally ended up in the middle of a riot while shopping and wearing their sunday best. Personally I wouldn’t be anywhere near any of it if I lived there, much less have kids in the mix. I doubt anyone there said, “oh hey, whats going on over there? ah crap, its a riot…” Don’t know what that girl said to the cops, but in a RIOT, yelling at riot police and not moving along does tend to get one smacked. You gotta kind of expect it. Again would be nice to get the whole story and not just pick and chose portions that help your point. Wrong doings and stupidty on both sides of the fence contributed to this scene

      I will agree, getting the whole story would be nice. And I think that the cop shoving the girl with the riot shield is fine. She was up in his face, screaming. He was getting her away, perfectly acceptable. The second cop should not have been hitting her though, as she had already been pushed back and was not offering any violent resistance.
      
      But it would be nice to see what happened a few minutes before, and what the scene BEHIND the camera is (how close are they to the riot, for example). The majority of the people look like they are calmly walking away, minding their business. The first guy who was being chased is clearly walking with someone and looking over his shoulder and seeing a cop coming at him fast with his club out. Without more footage, can’t tell if he was previously doing something or not (but I would suspect, based on his willingness to run right away, he did something).
      
      Either way, the two people who were “subdued” in this video are clearly not actively participating in the riot, and it appears to be a case of the cops not thinking clearly in the heat of the moment.
      
      Then again, it’s really easy to critique when sitting behind a computer staring at footage over and over.

thugs in uniform. they’ve got to go home to their children and live with this. When they grow older they will still have this on their conscience. They are not upholding the law, they are intimidating their fellow spaniards who are rightfully protesting. Hopefully they will be sacked and prosecuted.

My opinion is that the “institute” “Mossos d’Esquadra” can be a danger for the society as they can grow into an untouchable / independent body consisting of semi-militarists.

One decade ago the officers involved were already inhuman trained in a military way without any consideration.
